Another really nice job by @reredevaux just now on @foxandfriends explaining how the horse comes first in the decision making process. Puts it in simple terms, easy to understand. With all eyes on racing, we seriously couldn’t have asked for a better rep.
The NCAA tournament consisted of 32 teams when the Triple Crown adopted its current schedule in 1969. March Madness is now 76 teams.
Why is horse racing so beholden to these "traditions?" Also since 1969:
Only the 5 most recent Triple Crown winners did it with the current schedule.
Preakness one week after Kentucky Derby, Belmont three weeks after Preakness: Assault, 1946; War Admiral, 1937.
If you just sit back and think about it, it’s wild that the majority wants to make something as tough as the Triple Crown easier. Why water it down? Soon as you change it, it loses its meaning anyways.
