To commemorate Women’s Month, and mark the start of Sexual Awareness Month, the FIDA-Uganda @Makerere Student Chapter hosted the 𝐅𝐈𝐃𝐀-𝐌𝐔𝐊 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓. ����

Under the theme “𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒆𝒔” the get together emphasized the need to sustain conversations on issues affecting women and to keep raising awareness on key prevailing issues. It brought together members of the chapter and affiliated chapters for dialogue, networking, and shared learning on women’s rights and advocacy.

A lot was learnt and life-long connections were formed. One thing that remained distinct is that it's through our conversations that movements are sparked and it's through our questions that change is driven for. ✨

In Sebei and parts of Karamoja, FGM remains a harsh reality, affecting over 50% of women and girls in some communities, despite a national prevalence of about 0.3%. These figures remind us that behind every number is a girl whose rights, health, and future are at risk. 💔

On this International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, we are reminded that ending FGM by 2030 will not happen by slogans alone. It requires 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 to challenge harmful norms and protect girls. ✊🏾
