Very, very excited to share that my undergraduate research studying urban soil carbon stocks has been published! This project has meant everything to me over the years and I hope it can be helpful to others!

My first journal article was just published in Science of the Total Environment! Follow the link below for free access until September 8.

& if anyone is curious, my research project is quantifying deep-soil C stocks to identify trends between soil C storage and ecosystem characteristics within 14 semi-natural ecosystems. Hoping to shed some light on how important urban natural areas are β¨
I don't particularly post on here much as I'm mainly a lurker, but just wanted to share that not only have I found some *sweet, sweet* results in my urban soil C study, but I am also now a certified wildland firefighter! Can't wait to do some Rx burns ππ₯
Living in a forested area:
- pros: it's quiet and beautiful
- con: uploading a presentation (< 6 minutes) for a conference will take 11 grueling hours minimum ππ²π²
Sent my PI statistics and graphs that I made in R (my first week using it), and she said she was proud of me and that I did great work. I feel so happy and like I finally did something right π₯Ίπ
Grad school app season is (mostly) over, and since academic twitter is going nuts about the idea of paying research assistants $15/hr...
Let's talk about how expensive it is to be a student applying to graduate school--especially for underrepresented students.

@SwampThingPaul I had to make so many sacrifices this month just so I could afford the $150 "student" registration fee for the BioGeo conference in March. I don't think they, or even my PI, realizes how expensive that can be for those just getting out of college and during a pandemic π
It has been 550 days since I've done fieldwork in a swamp and I crave nothing more than to be coated in mud and sweat while carrying a backpack full of soil samples triggering my pinched back nerve. My happy place βΊ
