We’re tired of watching families be destabilized.

At last week’s Board of Education meeting, CTU Vice President Jackson Potter called out the chaos caused by charter operators’ mismanagement and Governor Pritzker and the Democratic supermajority’s chronic underfunding of public schools.

Parents and educators are demanding accountability from charter operators who pull the rug out on school communities and from Democratic leaders who continue to shortchange special education and essential classroom resources.

VP Potter’s message was clear: If Gov. Pritzker wants to do right by Chicago’s students, he must fully fund our schools, protect families, and enact emergency legislation now.

Our students can’t wait, and neither can we.

“It wasn’t because of some cosmic bargaining process or skillful negotiator…”

VP Jackson Potter says we won this transformative tentative agreement because we organized to change the conditions that govern and shape collective bargaining:
✔️ Restored bargaining rights
✔️ An elected school board
✔️ A mayor who knows what it’s like to teach

But this tentative agreement is just the floor — not the ceiling. It is a deposit, not a payment in full. The elected School Board and new CEO do not have to wait for the next contract to do even more to fund librarians, lower class sizes, or expand dual language. They can do it now.

As we celebrate all of the advancements in this agreement, we say 📢 Keep going.

Our students need and deserve more.
