What does tidally locked mean?
It means the Moon rotates on its axis in the same time it takes to orbit Earth, so the same side always faces us.
The “dark side” just means the far side of the Moon that we can’t see from Earth, not a permanently dark one. The Sun always lights up half of the Moon, and as it orbits Earth, different regions move into sunlight at different times.
