They spent years selling the Mar-a-Lago raid as a serious “classified documents” case ... boxes in a storage room, national security, all the usual theater.

Then Devin Nunes goes on Fox and basically says the quiet part out loud: the real target was a specific declassified House Intelligence Committee report that tore apart the 2017 Russia ICA. The one that called out the reliance on the Steele dossier, the ignored dissenting analysts, and the cooked conclusion that Putin wanted Trump to win.

Trump had declassified it before he left office. And according to Nunes, that’s what made Mar-a-Lago a priority target. Not random boxes. One report the intelligence community apparently couldn’t risk staying outside their control.

Later Kash Patel finds thousands of Crossfire Hurricane documents stuffed in burn bags inside a secret off-the-books room at FBI headquarters. The same crowd that ran the raid suddenly has a lot of explaining to do about why they were hiding records instead of destroying them like they were supposed to.

So the official story was “we had to raid a former president over some boxes.” The actual story looks a lot more like they were on a retrieval mission for the one piece of paper that documented how the whole Russia operation was built.

They couldn’t just say that out loud though. “We raided Mar-a-Lago to seize the Russia hoax receipts” doesn’t poll very well. So they went with the boxes story instead.

Same machine. Same instincts. Same problem: the paper trail keeps refusing to die.
