I was visiting relatives once in another town while 16. For my age, I was very small and unathletic. We went to a 12 year old baseball game and they were going to have to forfeit because they were short a player. My Dad had me pretend to be 12 to play with them. I was the STAR of that team that day. For anyone curious about what it actually looked like to kill a generation of functioning cars, here’s an actual video from 2009 and brief explanation:

The dealer first replaces the oil with sodium silicate solution. It’s a clear-ish liquid that crystallizes under extreme heat. As the engine warms up the solution begins to form small abrasive crystals in the oil system that shred the bearing and score the cylinder walls.

Within seconds of starting the car you can see smoke billowing from the exhaust, this is the crystals scratching the cylinder walls and leaving small grooves for oil and solution to leak past into the combustion chamber and ignite/evaporate, producing the white smoke.

Pretty soon the entire crankcase is full of crystals and freshly shredded metal flakes, the engine seizes. It took about 40 seconds in this video. Some engines reportedly lasted up to 7 minutes, but all were destroyed. That strikes me as sort of sad in a way, like watching a great warrior slowly lose a heroic last stand.

Now, this is the part that gets insanely wasteful. These cars were sent to federally approved recycling facilities where they had 180 days to sell the non-engine parts before they were required to prove that they had shred the entire thing into scrap steel.

But, in talking to a guy who ran one such facility at the time, he typically just sent them straight to the crusher. The timeframes allotted weren’t long enough to dismantle all of the cars, and even if you could, the marginal prices of the parts was greatly diminished. You cannot sell 1000 transmissions when only 50 went bad that year, they became worthless.

So just like that, in order to increase prosperity and save the environment, 677,000 entire running cars and trucks were turned directly into rebar worth a few cents per pound.

The entire Obama administration was like a chapter out of atlas shrugged.

He cancelled the ridiculous mandate! Imagine being forced by Democrats to buy insurance that is $12k out of pocket before the insurance kicks in at all. DECMOCRATS built that. They took everything wrong with the health insurance industry in 2010 and codified it and allowed those companies to get larger with less competition.

I just heard an absolutely INSANE story which gets to the root of the sheer stupidity of modern medicine.

A nurse in the middle of the USA told me that she saw a 90+ patient admitted to hospital with an acute illness.

Per protocol, this patient was given BOTH influenza and COVID vaccines at the same time, while they were acutely unwell with another illness.

How on earth could doctors or hospitals think this is a wise idea? To give a frail patient who is already sick, a significant antigenic stimulation during acute illness? (it would take days/weeks anyway to develop immunity from a vaccine, even if it worked)

But the broad point is: stupid things like this happen everywhere I’m sure. No common sense. Complete madness from a pharma-obsessed medical profession.

@ImBreckWorsham We remember when the Democrats had the house, senate and presidency and they gave us forced health insurance with $7k deductibles. Hard pass. Trump sucks but somehow democrats are even worse.

My light bill last month for water, sewer, and electric was $188. My property taxes are under $4k (still too high). In Cali my taxes were through the roof while the roads sucked, the schools sucked, the traffic sucked, the gov't sucked and to see homes burn next to the ocean is just incompetence. Idiots running everything from top to bottom. People in Brentwood have to send their kids to private school because the public schools are so bad. I don't miss getting harassed by a pan handler at the menu board of the El Pollo Loco drive thru anymore. Enjoy that 405, too!

That's why California is bleeding companies to Texas? I lived in California for over a decade and nothing there is cheap. I lived in NYC for two years and somehow it's even more expensive than LA with the highest energy costs I've paid in my life. My light bill last month in a red state was cheaper for a 3 bedroom home than a studio apartment in NYC from over a decade ago. You aren't even American are you?

The revolt is because the services have never been worse while the taxes so high. Places like California have some of the highest property taxes coupled with the worst services. They're complaining because the gov't is crapping their money down a rat hole and getting us to fight with each other. They want you to blame the old instead of the incompetent gov't.

The craven authoritarianism exhibited by Democrats during COVID convinced me to move out of a blue state and flee to a red one. So many people were fleeing the blue states you couldn't even find a Uhaul. I had to drive about 150 miles just to get it and it cost 3x the normal price. And a home made mask it as useless as a boat with holes in the bottom.
