Day One of the Youth Model Parliament 2026 is focused on equipping young participants with a practical understanding of parliamentary business and democratic processes.

The programme includes training on Standing Orders and Parliamentary Procedures, giving participants an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the rules and practices that guide parliamentary debates, deliberations and decision-making.

Participants will also receive presentations from the Ministry of Youth and the Zimbabwe Youth Council, reinforcing the message that Government institutions and programmes are for all young people, regardless of their background or political affiliation.

The day is designed to strengthen knowledge, promote inclusive participation and prepare young people to confidently engage in the parliamentary process.

Preparations are complete ahead of the Youth Model Parliament 2026, set to take place at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden today.

The Youth Model Parliament provides a unique platform for young people from different political parties to converge at Parliament and experience, first-hand, what it is like to walk in the shoes of a Member of Parliament.

Through debate, dialogue and simulated parliamentary proceedings, the programme equips young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to participate meaningfully in political discourse, democratic processes and decision-making.
