New York legalized cannabis yesterday. New Mexico did the same today. Sen Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he will be introducing legislation to end cannabis prohibition “shortly”. Does kind of feel like a tipping point.
@SierraWilliams It really needed to be this session to gain any kind of first mover advantage. Big Jim has tacitly supported legalization to fund his tax cut, but he'll need to throw his considerable weight (figuratively and literally) around to whip R votes and get it done.
New York State, almost certainly, will make full cannabis legalization official this afternoon: 21+ sales, possession up to 3oz, automatic expungements, homegrow, and more.
There's such a lack of understanding about the cannabis industry, especially in a place like West Virginia. That's why I'm launching West Virginia Cannabis Corner with the goal of bringing as much understanding as I can.

Justice says his medical advisors have informed him that, in fact, marijuana is not a gateway drug.
"I'm not educated enough to make a real good assessment yet."
"the medical community, and there's people out there with a lot more knowledge than I have, tell me that really and truly the legalizing of marijuana in certain areas or certain states that have that from a recreational standpoint, have lowered their drug-type problems." - Gov
HB 2291 would legalize cannabis in West Virginia.
It's in the House Committee on Health and Human Resources then goes to the Judiciary then Finance.

Virginia legislature has effectively legalized cannabis in the state. As written, legal sales set to begin Jan 1, 2024. Governor Northam may make amendments.
Virginia Senate and the House of Delegates approved legislation to legalize cannabis possession, personal cultivation, and retail sales for adults 21 and older. The bills now head to the governor for his approval, amendment, or veto! #LegalizeVirginia https://t.co/bEb7s4boLu
Recent polling is saying many Americans perceived greatest threat is the opposite party. There are people actively looking to harm you for their own gain, but it's not because they're Democrat or Republican, it's because they're assholes.
Thank you @Higginbotham4WV! I read the bill, and it's well thought out.
Starting with Nixon, so many politicians have said "we don't know enough about cannabis" and then proceeded to criminalize research.
And edibles are the best form for many with serious medical conditions.
I will be the lead sponsor of a bill to reform West Virginia’s Medical Marijuana program. My bill includes:
- Allowing medical research & development of cannabis by our universities & private companies
- Legalizing sales of edibles at dispensaries in childproof containers
The House Judiciary committee is discussing HB 2257, which would add up to 10 years of extra supervision (probation) to some drug crimes. This is on top of the prison sentence and parole that a person already gets.
Costly and unnecessary
Virginia is likely passing full cannabis legalization this session that won’t take full effect until 2024. @wvlegislature Pass a similar bill this session, next session we’ll already be behind.
@WVGovernor institutional capital is currently pouring into US cannabis businesses in preparation of ending federal prohibition. This session is the last opportunity to claim any first mover advantage, the kind of advantage that allowed Colorado to generate $10B in revenue.
@wizard_in_green @mrangelof In 2017, the @WVCBP estimated the state could collect $45 million annually. It’s my understanding the whole in the budget would be $2 billion. So......
Never thought Charleston would come running to the cannabis industry to bank roll their plans. You want to save some money? Immediately release/expunge/stop prosecuting all non-violent cannabis offenders.
Informal House poll shows lawmakers considering cuts to WVU, Marshall and legalizing marijuana to pay for elimination of personal income tax

A reminder, medical cannabis does not legalize driving impaired. Adult use cannabis does not legalize driving impaired. No legislation will ever legalize driving impaired. NEVER drive under the influence. https://t.co/FxhCX8ZAsy
