Today, we celebrate each other. Because Canada is a nation of kind, compassionate, hardworking people — as remarkable and diverse as the landscapes we all call home.
Happy Canada Day, Ottawa!
Canada is making a generational investment in our defence — meeting NATO’s 2% target for the first time in decades and on track to reach 5%.
I spoke with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte today ahead of next week’s NATO Summit. Together with our allies, Canada is working to ensure a strong, united Alliance.
Canada already has one of the cleanest electricity grids in the world. Now, we’re building on that advantage.
Our National Electricity Strategy will double the capacity of our grid by 2050, connect electricity systems across the country, and supply clean, reliable, affordable power to all Canadians.
LawZero is building systems to govern AI, ensuring it is safe, secure, and serves humans. The Government of Canada will support this work, led by @Yoshua_Bengio, as a committed partner in building AI for All.
Today in New Delhi, I announced a Letter of Intent to advance rigorous, forward-looking research on AI safety and system reliability. The AI Impact Summit is the ideal stage for this commitment, because trust must be the catalyst for technology.

This morning our officers responded to multiple calls about these two dogs running at large in the Walkley/Heatherington area. The officers were able to locate and worked hard to safely contain both dogs, and they have been transported to the Ottawa Humane Society.
If you are, or know, the owner, please contact the @ottawahumane to bring your pets home. #OttCity
The bear was assessed only by OPP officers, not trained wildlife specialists. Hard to believe there are no local rehab options for a juvenile bear. OPP should’ve ensured a vet evaluated it before making an irreversible decision to shoot it. We must do better. @AnimalJustice
Shortly before noon today, #OttawaOPP responded to reports that a bear had been struck by a vehicle on #Hwy7. The driver did not remain at scene. #OPP officers located the injured bear in the center median. It had visible, serious injuries to its hind legs. All efforts were made to see if it was possible to save the bear, which was a youngling. OPP contacted By-Law, the NCC, and MNR to see if it was possible to have the bear captured and rehabilitated. Unfortunately, there are no local facilities. The bears condition worsened, causing it to suffer. A decision to dispatch an animal by the OPP is always made on the basis of whether it is potentially dangerous or suffering. Officers were forced to make the tough decision to put the bear out of its misery. It's always unfortunate when an injured animal needs to be dispatched. If you are involved in a collision with an animal, report it to police right away in the event there is the ability to still save the animal. #OttTraffic ^mf
If you want to become a parent, my government will help make it more affordable. We’ll introduce a new IVF funding program to help cover costs for a standard treatment cycle.
