@MebFaber Rich ppl give to private charities for many reasons - they want a specific use, they want their name attached to the donation, they want to associate with a donor network.
Donating to gov't just doesn't accomplish these things, even if gov't is a better steward of capital.
@terronk@zck I asked if it was possible that Group A might support Position A for Reason A and you said "no, that's not possible because Group B supports Position B"
The company that you should compare Nvidia to is Apple.
It's like Apple right now because they're the only two hardware companies in the Mag 7.
It's like Apple when the iPhone came out because both launched the era's category-defining product, which other megacaps are trying to match but can't because they don't have the production capacity or supply chain
Steve Bannon just said the US gov should take 50% equity in the leading American AI labs.
No doubt he made such a controversial statement to distract from the revelation that he was extremely close with Epstein.
But we need to separate the idea from the man. The fact that the man is bad has nothing to do with the idea, which is also bad.
In Sept 2025, Opendoor hired Kaz Nejatian - then COO of Shopify - as the new CEO.
His equity comp is entirely tied to share price milestones, and he's moving towards the right strategy - ramping acquisition volume and making spread irrelevant.
Opendoor's strategy has shifted.
For 3 years, a caretaker CEO tried to get profitable by lowballing homeowners and shrinking volume. A dead-end strategy.
You can't build a beloved platform by gouging your customers, and nobody wants to invest in a company that's shrinking.
@tszzl Yes.
I lived in Somaliland for 5 years. The government of Somalia simply has no purchase there - other than to occasionally prevent international money from going to useful places.
Refusing to recognize makes America look like it bows to petty regional tantrums.
@zachweinberg 1) America has always had socialism
2) It's natural for countries to become more socialist as they get richer
3) The richest city in the richest country in the world is about to get slightly more socialist
This does not seem like a disaster.
