In her new Forefront article, @JessLAndersen from @RutgersU discusses how the call to leverage private capital in health care is, on its face, enticing. However, she argues, private capital does not prioritize systemwide efficiency or patient needs. https://t.co/IJPeQ0OcVb
Another big hospital ponzi just filed Chapter 11.
In 2018 2 serial grifters & Leonard Green Partners embezzled >$650 million from the Prospect hospital chain
Now it's $3-4 billion in the hole
One Prospect hospital just flooded AND caught fire TWICE in a single week over Xmas

@seanluomdphd@haugejostein It's actually very interesting if consider the degree of influence the field of economics has on policy compared to all of the other sciences
@DrRupaMarya In medical school I was reported for professionalism issues by other students more than anyone else I know. For things like mentioning in group chats that our professors shouldn't be saying crack babies, for declining to organize with certain students, etc.
@awgaffney@Hayrook My own perspective over the last few years has been that covid really radicalized a lot of people in the healthcare system and put them in a position where they were willing to participate in unionization. I'm curious what you might attribute it to?
@awgaffney@Hayrook Whenever people ask about my plan post MD PhD I tell them I'll consider residency if the union surge continues! Glad to see there is finally some hard evidence this is what is really happening
@MaxJordan_N happens with teaching now too! I see a topic or exercise that I just can't get myself excited about, until it clicks, ahhh I hadn't found the lens on this topic that is in line with my values
@MaxJordan_N almost lol'd the library at this. Yes absolutely. Totally misses the point and misleads people, keeps us busy thinking there's incremental steps that can solve our country's problems but keep all existing power structures in place.
@KatieJWells @ZephyrTeachout Unfortunately I feel states would need some evidence that using these gig nursing platforms compromises patient care and care quality in some way before being willing to act
@sadafjaffer@joeymdfox 100% agree, I started following her because I was interested in her WFP background, and once she started posting all the pro-isreal stuff realized we did not have any real political values in common
@NJComptroller These people should never be allowed to be involved in any type of healthcare business ever again. Not owning. Not management companies. Not supply companies. Not staffing agencies. Absolutely nothing, how do we ensure this?
@ZephyrTeachout basically premium rate reviews or state-based public insurance options seem to be the most favored policies with the most research, support, and existing infrastructure to support:

@ZephyrTeachout my understanding is that every single state has different mechanisms that they can or can't get involved in insurance and health delivery practices and prices, which makes it kind of complicated to talk about states generally
