Taylor Anderson brightened so many young lives during her time as an assistant language teacher with the @JETProgram in the coastal city of Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture. For any parent, the loss of a child leaves a pain and grief like no other. As Japan prepares to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Tohoku disaster on March 11, 2011, I felt privileged to meet Taylor’s father, Andy, and her sister, Julz, and hear about Taylor’s life, her love of Japan, and the legacy the Anderson family has created in Taylor’s name in the city she called home.

Congratulations to @JETAADC on receiving the Ambassador’s Commendation in recognition of their longstanding contributions to Japan–US exchange.
Even after their time on the #JETProgram ends, alumni remain lifelong bridges of friendship between Japan and the United States. 🇯🇵🇺🇸
It was our great pleasure to host a ceremony in partnership with @JETProgram for the conferment of the Ambassador’s Commendation on @JETAADC.
We commend JETAADC for its sustained commitment to advancing people-to-people ties and strengthening the Japan–US relationship.
We were joined by students from @williamandmary for a lecture about the role of education in public diplomacy, studying or working in Japan via the @mextjapan Scholarship or the @JETProgram, and a tour of our teahouse. We wish them the best in their studies and future endeavors!
For nearly 40 years, the @JET_Programme has served as a cultural bridge between local Japanese schools and communities and the world. A former @JETProgram assistant language teacher himself, Deputy Chief of Mission Aaron Snipe spoke at the Alumni Association’s New Year party about his own life-changing experiences as part of the program in Kagoshima and about the power of cultural exchange to inspire and invigorate young minds.
