Melbourne didn’t even crack the top 200 cities with the highest crime in Numbeo’s 2026 mid year worldwide Crime Index update.
But it has been voted the friendliest city on earth. 👏🏼👏🏼
On ya, Melbourne. 👑
Fascinating analysis of the futility of constantly hiking interests rates to fight inflation caused mostly by Trump & Netanyahus wars. https://t.co/ny5TktLSYe

Our prosperity, diversity, hopefully tolerance & humanity all boosted by people settling here.

Yet again, Marcia Langton demolishes so much of the baggage around useless & racist Hanson & the ON rabble, now funded by the super rich & entitled.
Far too good an article to be behind a paywall, but reason alone to read real journalism & subscribe to @SatPaper
Over the last 9 months the debate in our nation about Australia’s migration program has become louder and louder.
On one level, I totally understand people’s concern about migration numbers.
But it’s important when we discuss migration, it’s important some facts are considered so as to ensure we don’t inadvertently hurt our country rather than help it.
Last week I gave the annual dinner speech at The Sydney Institute, with the aim of putting a few facts on the table. And providing a perspective of the value and importance of a well calibrated migration program.
I know this will not be politically popular in many quarters, and not everyone will agree with my position. I respect that.
But nonetheless, people are entitled to hear my position and can judge accordingly.
It’s a long speech, so this is just a snippet, but the full speech is in the comments.
I hope everyone had a good weekend.
That great writer Richard Flanagan and his brilliant speech to the Festival of Dangerous Ideas…a scorching takedown of the Israel Lobby.

The Mayor of Boroondara, Wes Gault, just told Raf on ABC Radio Melbourne that the Victorian Liberals’ promise of weekly red bin collections will be paid for in only two ways:
Cuts to other services, or
Higher rates.
Either way, you'll be paying for it.
The idea that the spike in antisemitism in Australia over the past two years is unrelated to Israel’s conduct in Gaza is simply not real. Like the idea that the earth is flat is simply unreal.
