My new true crime book THE LADY IN THE LAKE: A Reporter's Memoir of a Murder is coming. It's published on October 10 by the brilliant Mirror Books. It's an astounding murder case I reported on in the 1990s.
@PeterMu68418520@LuxuryMoon@nickwallis@JournalismSEEN@sharrond62@Glinner And I just had a look at the BBC's coverage of the Salmond trial. Both prosecution and defence were extensively covered as the trial unfolded. I know Salmond described Kirsty Wark's doc about the trial afterwards as biased, but that's a different matter.
@PeterMu68418520@LuxuryMoon@nickwallis@JournalismSEEN@sharrond62@Glinner Thanks for your reply. My comment refers to BBC's coverage of the Linehan case. It still stands: a news organisation risks losing protection of its court reporting under absolute privilege if it doesn't report both sides of the story and would be open to possible libel claims.
@LuxuryMoon@nickwallis@JournalismSEEN@sharrond62@Glinner No, the BBC is reporting in quotes what the prosecution is alleging in court. Once the defence begins you should expect the BBC to report that side. There are strict rules around court reporting, namely fairness and accuracy.

when I was about 13, I read my Grandma's book, "Mostly Murder" by Sir Sydney Smith. I was absolutely enthralled, especially by the case of Buck Ruxton & the superimposed photo evidence. It started a lifelong obsession with true crime. Def recommend @JezCraddock's "Jigsaw Murders"
@JezCraddock I have a copy of Spilsbury's book "Mostly Murder" which got me on to the Ruxton case, & I've read your book "The Jigsaw Murders" - and have the audiobook! Absolutely fascinating case.
