A few weeks ago, United invited supporters to apply to take part in discussions about the proposed new stadium. This week, those sessions were held with the selected participants — and some interesting details have started to emerge.
It seems attendance at the sessions was quite low, with smaller focused groups, and it’s unclear how representative the selected groups were across different supporter types.
Here’s a summary of some of the key points discussed:
Long-term Season Ticket Contracts: One proposal involved paying a large upfront fee to secure a season ticket for 15 years or more. This would also secure your seat from being moved/reallocated should the club decide this was needed.
Hospitality: Up to 40% of the stadium’s capacity could be allocated to hospitality, including premium viewing areas on the halfway line (both sides), every tier and pitchside.
Premium Season Ticket Model: A new tier that would involve paying an additional premium on top of your standard season ticket. Benefits could include better chances of securing away tickets (a kind of paid-for loyalty pot), access to concert tickets, premium stadium areas, and more.
American-style Matchday Experience: Think 360-degree screen bars, multiple smaller merchandise outlets instead of a single megastore, food and drink stalls, and the ability to move freely around the concourse with your stadium ticket — so you can meet friends and family before heading to your seat.
Pricing: While pricing was discussed, it should be taken with a pinch of salt — everything mentioned was based on today’s rates. Realistically, use your imagination here, the cost of building the stadium will need to be recouped somehow.
Timeline: Perhaps surprisingly, the target for opening is still 2030.
