This misconception comes occasionally, so I thought I’d address it.
In Cyberpunk RED, medical grade cyberware (functional prosthetic arms, artificial hearts, etc) do not cause Humanity Loss. Neither does gender affirmation bodysculpting/surgery.
@HornyTallarn I’m aware of the differences between editions, sure. On the other hand, 2020 didn’t cover medical implants because honestly, the writers at the time thought it was obvious. In RED we decided to spell it out.
@FishmoderApril@lofibeatdown Those are great questions. In fact, those are questions cyberpunk as a genre was (at least in part) designed to ask. What is human and how does human interact with technology. The split-off transhumanity genre does the same. It’s an ongoing debate for sure.
@hrsprnt Medical grade cyberware can’t accept options, no. There are some exceptions. If it can be installed in a meat version it can be installed in a medical implant.
For example, ripppers.
@SwagFish03 Biotechnica’s bioexotic packages usually include multiple cyberware pieces, all of which pushes beyond the human baseline, so it doesn’t. The packages, though, do cause tend towards Humanity Loss than the individual pieces would if installed separately.
I wrote two new Cyberpunk REF missions for Gen Con 2026. One has light horror vibes and touches on a few classic tropes. The other is a retrieval mission with branching paths for GMs to follow. Feeling good about both.
Weird things I have written into Cyberpunk canon:
* The birthdays of several legends. Alt Cunningham shares mine.
* A gang named after a weird phenomenon involving rats.
* A private furry club.
* An entire military base.
* A Raffen Shiv gang that eats toes like grapes.
Each of the four (2013, 2020, 2045, 2077) main eras of Cyberpunk are different in ways both subtle and blatant. Technology evolves. The world evolves. Language evolves. Eddies, for example, is 2077 slang while choombatta is rarely heard said by young people past 2020.
Night City 2045 is stuffed with thousands of words worth of new lore for Cyberpunk. It is also contains callbacks to the 2020 era and callforwards to the 2077 era. Some fairly obscure.
I’m curious which ones you have found. Reply and let me know, please.
