@theAndrewSharpe@afneil PPE contracts were ultimately awarded and handled by the civil service and there is no evidence that money flowed back to anyone in government. The Tories know key people in business. Labour don't. That is a disadvantage of Labour.
@afneil@mailplus Yes, not a great result, but the lead has now fallen to 9 points. The direction of travel is actually positive for the Tories in the 18 months before the next election provided Sunak continues as he has and then starts reducing taxes from the war chest that is being accumulated.
@PolitlcsUK@CatNeilan Yes, there is a lot of leaking by the Civil Servants recently. I am beginning to believe that most is mischief making. The integrity of the Civil Service is questionable.
@RobertLindsay I think that you are old enough to remember the Labour governments of the 1970s. In 1976, the country was so broke from strikes and nationalisation. that the Labour government had to apply for £4 billion IMF loan (£21 billion today). 2/10
@JohnSimpsonNews The BBC has become problematic in that it has become too political. It has become too opinionated for a public service broadcaster. Its in-depth reporting often lacks balance. Would like the BBC to remain publicly financed as now because there is much is good but reform is needed
@campbellclaret Unfortunately, when dealing with people, who are persuaded by Labour that 2 plus 2 equals 6, he has to explain economics in simple terms as if his audience were children.
@EnglishExaminer @jonwensley@HarryYorke1 That is a bit cynical. Actually, when people have made it, they often turn their attention to philanthropy and non-profit activities.
@BillNeelyReport@jonsopel@davidleighx He may well be. That he connected the PM to someone, who might help with a loan, which was not correctly advised to the selection committee, does not mean that he hasn't been chairing the BBC correctly.
@GordonBrown There is a certain irony that your reputation for bullying and abrasiveness in office far superseded what Raab was found guilty of. Had you been ejected, the UK would be in a far better place after the Financial Crisis of 2008 without unaffordable levels of public spending.
@RachelReevesMP How will you do that without using taxpayers' money to subsidise? High street closures are a function of market forces and consumer purchasing patterns Acting like King Canute is a waste of public funds.
@RachelReevesMP Windfall taxes on companies that do not make their profits in the UK is shortsighted and will lead to those companies relisting outside the UK. Some tax take is better than no tax take.
@PeterStefanovi2 Clearly, you do not understand what inflation is and how it can become hard baked if wages rise. Put simply, if people have the ability to pay higher prices, then vendors have no reason to reduce prices. If buyers buy less, vendors have to reduce prices to sell all their stock.
@jamesmurray_ldn The profits that you want to tax were not made in the UK, so if the energy companies decide to list elsewhere, that is a big loss to the economy. Windfall taxes are short-sighted most all Labour Party policy
@RichardBurgon It is illusory. That is paper riches. If billionaires were to try and cash out, the value of their so called riches would be a fraction of what they are supposed to be.
@rich7sharp @tomhfh@GBNEWS No, if you look at the BBC summary of accusations found to be proven and the much longer list of unproven claims, you can see a serial hard worker, who worked 7am to 10pm and who expected the highest standards from his 'colleagues'.
@RobertLindsay The UK is doing a lot to reach nett zero and done much more than many other countries. However, whatever the UK does, which will impact people's livelihoods, it is completely nullified by developing countries. If these guys want to make a difference, go to China and India.
@AngelaRayner There wasn't enough PPE at the start of the pandemic, which would have been in costly storage waiting for a health crisis and the government was criticised. Now we have emergency PPE stored at a high cost and the govt is criticised. Do you want sufficient capacity of PPE or not?
@RachelReevesMP Good luck with that. The BMA has put a limit on the number of doctors that they want to see qualify each year, which is why we see junior doctors, some of whom will become GPs, struggling with the burden of work.
