🇭🇹 Gang violence in Haiti has reached extreme levels
The “Gran Grif” gang, one of the most brutal in Haiti, carried out an attack on the town of Jean-Denis, killing more than 70 civilians, including children. They also burned numerous homes and buildings in the area.
Unlike many other groups centered in the capital, Gran Grief controls a key agricultural region.
In October 2024, members of the gang attacked the town of Pont-Sonde, shooting residents and setting homes on fire. More than 70 people were killed, including children.
Between 2024 and 2025, the group repeatedly stormed prisons, such as in Mirebalais, freeing hundreds of inmates to recruit into their ranks.
The United States has officially designated “Gran Grif” as a terrorist organization. It is also under UN sanctions.

Objektif Etazini pou Ayiti rete etabli yon nivo minimòm sekirite ak estabilite. Nenpòt tantativ Konsèy Prezidansyèl Tranzisyonèl (KPT) a ki pa eli a ta fè pou chanje konpozisyon gouvènman an nan etap manda li ki trè avanse konsa, Etazini ta konsidere li kòm yon manèv pou febli objektif sa a e pakonsekan li ta nul e san valè. Etazini ta konsidere ke nenpòt moun ki sipòte yon inisyativ destabilizasyon konsa, ki an favè gang yo, ta aji kont enterè Etazini, rejyon an ak pèp Ayisyen an, e li ap pran mezi ki apwopriye kòmsadwa.

___
The U.S. objective for Haiti remains the establishment of baseline security and stability. The U.S. would regard any effort to change the composition of the government by the non-elected TPC at this late stage in its tenure to be an effort to undermine that objective and as such null and void. The U.S. would consider anyone supporting such a disruptive step favoring the gangs to be acting contrary to the interests of the United States, the region, and the Haitian people and will act accordingly.
