Corey Seager has been placed on the 7-day concussion injured list, and the Rangers have activated Josh Smith in a corresponding move.
Seager suffered the concussion after a collision at home plate with Royals catcher Carter Jensen on Thursday. Despite the incident, he remained in the game and later hit a home run. However, he missed the entire series in Boston and was ultimately placed on the IL.
Before Sunday’s game, Seager was able to hit, run, and throw but was still not cleared for game action. The 32-year-old had recently returned from a three-week absence due to lower back inflammation and was slashing .238/.273/.524 with two home runs in five games before the collision.
Josh Smith returns to the active roster as the Rangers begin a six-game homestand against the Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres.
