Honestly, what has King done? He takes two steps forward and two back, and can't stay healthy. Warren is much the same- do you want him starting a playoff game right now? Relievers are a crapshoot, and they pick up guys from different organizations and turn them into "elite" relievers, they don't really develop them. We'll see how LaGrange works out.

Try to understand this, and believe me, I know it's hard: The Yankees have a full scouting department that is paid very well. They also have a player development group, also paid well. Sure, they can get lucky on players now and then like Rice and Schlittler, but shouldn't they be more successful with the highly touted prospects? Cashman sings praises about guys for years before we see them and when we do, they mostly never live up to the hype.
Now, if Cash was doing this as sort of a "pump and dump" plan to sucker other teams into taking his "blue chip" prospects in trade for useful players, than I'd congratulate him. However, he passes on trades because he thinks kids are going to fill the hole, and they don't.
Before Schlittler, who was the last good pitcher the Yankees developed? Severino, with his two good seasons? Before him, who? Pettitte.
