Salvation is by grace through faith alone in Christ alone, and not of works (see Ephesians 2:8, 9). Evidence to other people that one is saved is shown, not just by saying you have faith alone, but also by works. (Ephesians 2:10, James 2:24).

The apostle Paul teaches about being justified before God (Romans 5:1). James teaches about being justified before men (James 2:18 – show me, I will show you). A person must be justified in the sight of God, before he can be justified before men.

Being justified before men means showing men that one is already justified before God. Paul teaches that a person is justified before God by faith and not works. James teaches that a person is shown to others to be justified by faith and works.
