In a world of neverending outrage and terminal online-ness, we need more community. People need to get off their PCs, form small groups to talk with other human beings, and be normal. No more "discourses on the wifejak meme", no more "discussions on media literacy." These things are inconsequential and fleeting. Internet relationships are easily severed at any time and for any reason. Staring at screens is awful for you. Netflix hates you and wishes you were never born. Get some sunlight. Touch another human being, even if it's just a handshake. Experiences are good, but human connection is where it's at. You'll come back from your latest Hawaii trip with a tan, a couple pleasant memories and about $5k poorer. But if you make a local friend that relationship will pay dividends for life. Be unselfish. Put everything into being the best friend and family member you can. Try to become a relatable person. Everyone has niche interests, but think about how you can present those to people who don't share your interest in an interesting way. Consider picking up a non-niche interest. Reach out to your extended family. What have you done to strengthen your relationship with them lately? What are they currently going through? Talk about everything. Talk about the weather if you have to. Talk to an old person. Hold their stories in your heart, you may not get another chance to hear them. Pass their stories on. Create stories in which you're not the main character. They're happening around you all the time, you just have to pick up on them. Consider the future. Consider your legacy. How will people view you when you're gone? Who will feel your absence in their gut? What kind of memories will they have? Will you be the goofy person who always made them laugh, or the dour person always staring at a screen? Make things around you better. Improve something, anything. Restore an antique, or build something new. Make something that will still be around long after you've passed away. Take pride in yourself, and in your work. Add vitality back to the world. Rage against the dying of the light.
Well yeah, because Epstein was the rape network for billionaires and jews. Immigrants have their own, different rape networks. Respectfully, are you dumb?
@HistoryBro1@martianwyrdlord They might destroy us if they stop into America and see how Home Depot treats its lumber.
"After harvesting, you allow the wood to sit in the sun and rain and get bent? ...surely this is a special method for creating curved structures??"
The puritans were very different than most people's conception of them. They considered marriage as a contract, not a hallowed sacrament. They also considered having kids a form of worship, which is why they averaged 8 kids per woman, despite marrying in their mid-late 20s(at least in the American colonies)
It was actually the multiple Nazi salutes, constant use of Nazi rhetoric, and vocal support for Germanyโs far-Right political party which includes Nazis.
@memeticsisyphus It is because if we take a second to truly appreciate what was built by primarily white Americans, black people will stop functioning. The need the constant outrage to wind their mechanisms.
Baltimore's four controversial Confederate monuments, removed in the dead of night nearly nine years ago, have reentered the city as quietly as they left. https://t.co/RwTbdRwC6G
@Sargon_of_Akkad The people of Makerfield had a choice between throwing one "based" MP into the pack or having a shot at affecting national politics and removing a hated politician. Obviously they chose the latter.
@leighkeystone The psychology is simple here:
1. Vote Reform or Restore, throw one "based" MP into an overwhelmingly establishment parliament
2. Vote Labour and put Burnham in, have a shot at reshaping national politics and removing a much hated prime minister
Just my 2p from across the pond
As an outside observer closely following British politics and with a decent understanding of psychology:
This election is less a win for labour, as much as it is a loss for Starmer. The people of Makerfield saw an opportunity to affect national politics and remove a much hated politician, and took it.
@PaleoGOP@DanielMElliott Someone needs to run the per-capita likelihood of being a child rapist for Pakistanis from Mirpur compared to white British. Is it 1,000x more likely? 10,000x?
@lancelachlan 83% of Britain believes in meritocracy
87% of MPs hate their own kind
92% of police officers are selected for DEI compliance
94% of the House of Lords are traitors to the British people
85% of Britain's richest families profit from the destruction of the nation
Just sayin
@WallStreetMav It's a clear and obvious conflict of interests. Any form of welfare above and beyond what all Americans receive should disqualify a person from voting for at least 2 years after they are off welfare(so they can't cheat the system by going off it just for election day)
@Mbakaza4L Thank God for the community notes on this one. There's been so much horror involving young ones in the news lately and I was about to be violently ill.
