@BelfastLive@JamesMcCarthy97 He hasn't been deselected yet so it's probably a bit premature to comment, but losing Doug would be a blow to the party as a whole. Would be great if this encouraged people to join the party so they get an influence next time round.
@BBCNewsNI As someone who is very pro-Jesus I feel a bit uneasy about this march. Most attendees will be great people but it's so easy for it to be undermined by a few bigots (like the march in London) and lead to it becoming a terrible witness for Christ.
@richardtgarland Having seen Jon at work in N Antrim during the past few months, his enthusiasm for the MLA role and his sensible ideas have been very encouraging. If all politicians were enthusiastic and sensible he would be in trouble as a newcomer, but unfortunately that's pretty scarce!
Two points re Jon Burrows.
First, I don’t accept that he is any less forward-thinking or moderate than anyone else in the party. In fact I think he will be a lot more constructive than others who have been lauded in the past.
I also welcome that he will not be afraid to call out sectarianism and criminality, which is badly needed, and he won’t denigrate victims the way the DUP leadership has done in recent days and weeks.
Second, one of his strongest attributes is his competence, an area where the DUP have really been lacking in recent years.
He won’t be afraid to think outside the box and I believe he could be a shrewd leader with a lot more to offer than the current leadership of unionism.
I am not a mind reader and I have been wrong before, but I genuinely think he has the potential to shake up the ground and put us back on the front foot.
@timmckane We can't achieve that kind of efficiency without something like digital ID. The WeChat app is more invasive than most people in UK would be happy with but perhaps we could compromise a bit more privacy to get better results?
@MichaelPalmerNI I think we need to finish our stint in charge of health to give the department stability. Country first, party second.
After the election though, opposition makes sense.
A column by @SJAMcBride in this mornings @TheSundayLife is well worth a read ….. I’ve encountered so many decent hard working migrants in the last 20yrs people who want to live here and be part of our community….. #BuyANewspaper
I have to say I think @JacksonMinford is doing a outstanding job as the local Mayor he’s participating in just about everything I even heard him do a spot of carol singing Well done to him and I thank him for checking in with me on a number of occasions lately. 👏👏
On behalf of our members we totally reject the assertion being made that our officers in some way contributed to the disgraceful disorder scenes in Ballymena last summer. We didn’t and don’t always get everything right but that in no way justifies the wanton violence and criminality that subsequently played out.
“Grow Up” the response from Alliance.
@JonBurrowsMLA took the opportunity today to express his solidarity with the Justice Minister, while also sharing his own personal experience of being under threat.

“The United Kingdom was built – and is still guided – by Christian morals and principles. Compassion in the face of suffering is in our DNA.
Time and again, we have answered the call when children are caught in the crossfire of war. From Ukraine to Syria, we have stood up, stepped forward, and made a difference. The children of Gaza deserve the same spirit of humanity – and Northern Ireland can and should play its part as part of the great United Kingdom collective.
We can help meaningfully – through medical aid, partnerships, or targeted care – while also protecting the most vulnerable patients here at home. That’s not a lack of compassion; it’s responsible compassion.
Facts we cannot ignore:
• 🇬🇧 The UK has a proud record – from evacuating Ukrainian children for specialist treatment to providing safe refuge for Syrian child refugees.
• 🏥 Our NHS is under unprecedented pressure – record waiting lists, exhausted staff, and critical shortages mean capacity must be planned, not promised.
• 🤝 Helping abroad and caring at home are not opposites – with careful planning, we can do both without sacrificing either.
We are at our best when we face hard truths with open hearts.

@LoveBallymena As a developed country, we have workers from overseas and their families, and we also accept refugees as a moral duty.
Providing translation services is a much better solution than blocking migration or preventing their access to services with a language barrier.
