@DrKevinMSerra@JuliaMae_VA Worse, admittedly, I am an MD/PhD student also getting a concurrent MS. And my undergrad was in engineering. I am the final boss of being a nerd
@JuliaMae_VA These days, they teach to find the tendon and hit your own hand (force will pass through) so that you can feel if the tendon underneath twitches or not regardless of movement, so, if done right, you can feel if it's faked.
Personally, I was a trying not to kick kid
@JuliaMae_VA Med student! Generally, the patellar (knee) reflex is the most dramatic, but we hit multiple muscle tendons. The point is to test the function of specific spinal nerves, and if there's a problem, see if it's in the upper (more reflex) or lower (diminished reflex) motor neurons
@Forever_Wario Alternatively, my travel hack, particularly during the holidays, is to shamelessly overpack my carryon and then volunteer to gate check it so that I don't have to deal with it. Win-win
Casual reminder that ring material determines how "fun" the ER visit is if it gets stuck and conventional options fail. Ring cutters can cut through gold and silver and shatter tungsten, but steel requires a call to the cops or fire department to bring a diamond saw.
@IlyasCigarette This is like my respect for fantasy authors with the guts to kill a main character instead of pulling a deus ex machina. Phenomenal author willing to kill a POV character mid-book, but it's then a spoiler to give the book recs.
@zoerosebryant@EvanSteinbache3 Probably because they're both filmed in IMAX. Whenever I see something in IMAX, the trailers are all for upcoming IMAX releases rather than films with a similar target audience. Leads to an eclectic assortment of trailers.
@opossumparel Really depends on what Armando and the Eridian doctors can do, but technically, Grace does not actually need all of those bones and would have the journal articles to prove it.
@opossumparel 1) wisdom teeth
2) fibula
If a patient needs a bone graft for a reconstruction surgery, the doctors will harvest and reshape the fibula for it.
3) 11th or 12th ribs
Bottom ribs can be removed out of medical necessity or as a cosmetic procedure
@rizcriz I'm in a financial assistance program for a different med. Huge pain to setup, and I hate dealing with their pharmacy, but it's worth the $$$$ difference. Your doc *should* be able to help out, but mileage may vary since some docs don't have much experience with these
@rizcriz You may want to look into financial assistance programs; a lot of the hella expensive drugs without generics have options, even for uninsured patients (amount of hoops to jump through varies by med; I don't have experience with this one to say)

@jinx_3A They are exhausting. I don't know how they made it this far without basic life skills, but they blithely ignore mandatory things assuming that everything will work out okay anyway. For example, I'm the only one who didn't get underpayment fines for not paying quarterly taxes.
yes, one of the reasons I went to med school is that after bad experiences with doctors, I had an "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself" thought
somehow, it's still surprising to me that my most used gif in reference to my md/phd cohort is this one
my timeline has largely ended up in rygos fan circles via phmtwt, but not enough people are including Remember the Titans in their movie lists. Yes, he has a relatively minor role in it, but y'all should watch it anyway because it's an incredible movie
