I could not stand with you in Anuradhapura today. But from behind the walls of remand, I felt the strength of the people.

My sincere thanks to everyone who organised today’s #JanaSatana rally, to those who travelled from across the country, and to every person who stood with us, including those who came from different political parties and backgrounds.

What we saw today was bigger than one party or one individual. It was people coming together because they believe Sri Lanka deserves better.

We may disagree on many things, but when it comes to justice, democracy, accountability and the future of our country, we must be willing to stand together.

To every person who stood in Anuradhapura today, this message is for you: your voice was heard. And it will not be forgotten.

Seven years on from the Easter Sunday tragedy, the pain of that day still lives with our people. We remember every innocent life lost and stand with the families whose grief has not faded. Yet, as we honor their memory, we must confront the reality that the search for truth has been hijacked by those who prefer political theatre over evidence.

True justice must be provocative. It should not be a tool for character assassination or a pawn in geopolitical games; it must be a sovereign quest for the absolute truth. We owe it to every family shattered by this tragedy to move beyond the convenient narratives used to settle political scores and instead uncover the structural failures and real masterminds behind this horror.

The security of our people and the sanctity of our nation must never again be a casualty of political manipulation. Sri Lanka deserves a leadership that seeks a truth that heals, not one that merely serves the agenda of the day.

Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody’s resignation, although welcome, comes a bit too late.

Parliament spent an entire day debating his No Confidence Motion, only for all NPP MPs to vote against it, thereby indicating that they ignored and effectively supported the corruption allegations against him.

The coal scam has already cost the nation millions. Will the Minister’s resignation cover up or compensate the people for the money already lost? Ultimately, it is the consumer who bears the brunt of this massive scam. Can a resignation truly compensate for it?

Will President Anura Kumara Dissanayake take responsibility for appointing Jayakody to such a powerful portfolio despite his past corruption allegations? Despite being well aware of his history, the President still appointed him as Energy Minister and continued to defend him even after the BoI commenced a probe.

The President should be held directly responsible for the coal scam, which has cost consumers heavily, as he protected Jayakody for over a year, even after the scandal was exposed.

Just days ago, there were strong statements about ensuring women’s safety and protecting their rights. But what good are words when women aren’t even safe at their workplaces?

This is exactly what happens when a government fuels hatred and division for political and personal gain, creating a society where lawlessness prevails. This culture of impunity must end. The person responsible for this horrific crime must be brought to justice, and real action must be taken to protect every woman in Sri Lanka. Right now, the reality doesn’t match the promises.
