Zambia's Soya Bean Revolution! 🌱🇿🇲
Imagine a Zambia where our fields are gold not just with copper, but with agriculture! The economic opportunity of producing 3 million metric tons of soya beans is monumental, and the time to seize it has come. Here's why this is a game-changer for our nation:
📈 Massive Export Potential
Starting May 2026, China implemented a ZERO-TARIFF policy on agricultural imports from 53 African nations, including Zambia! This means unprecedented, duty-free access to the world’s second-largest economy for our agricultural products. We plan to export 2 million metric tons to China under this agreement that will generate massive injection of foreign exchange. This policy eliminates previous tariffs that could be up to 25%, making our exports instantly more competitive!
🏭 Value Addition & Industrialisation
The remaining 1 million metric tons offer incredible potential for local value addition. Processing soya beans into cooking oil, soya cake for livestock feed, and other by-products creates a robust local industry. Our processing sector is already relatively competitive in the region, and expanding this means we keep the wealth and the processing margins right here at home.
💼 Unlocking Job Creation
Scaling to 3 million tons isn't just about the crops; it's about the people. This expansion will create tens of thousands of jobs across the entire value chain from smallholder farmers and agronomists to truck drivers, factory workers in extraction plants, and logistics personnel managing the exports to China.
💰 Boosting Tax Revenue & Economy
The ripple effect of this agricultural boom will be felt in the national treasury. Increased corporate taxes from processing companies, income tax from newly created jobs, and export-related revenues will provide the government with the much-needed capital to invest in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
We have the land, the favourable climate, and now, a guaranteed, duty-free market in China!
The agticultural revolution is on course and our future is undoubtedly bright.
Let's get planting! 🌱🚜
🇿🇲 Manufacturing Takes the Lead in Zambia's Economic Growth! 🏭
Based on the recently released ZAM Press Statement, the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) is thrilled to welcome the latest Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) report on Actualised Investments. The findings confirm that Zambia remains a favourable investment destination, with the manufacturing sector leading the charge in driving industrialisation, economic diversification, and sustainable growth.
Here are the key highlights from 2021 to June 2026:
Out of the USD 19.07 billion in total actualised investments recorded by ZDA, manufacturing accounted for the highest share at USD 7.33 billion (38.5%).
The sector generated 46,759 actual jobs, making it the second-largest employment contributor among the monitored sectors.
Manufacturing experienced positive growth every year during this period, reaching a 7.1% growth rate in 2025 and 5.4% in the first quarter of 2026.
The sector now accounts for nearly 10% of the national GDP.
Manufacturing contributes significantly to the economy, providing 10.4% of Government tax revenue as of Q1 2026.
Resilience in the Face of Challenges
This incredible performance is especially notable given the tough operating environment. Despite energy constraints caused by the drought, limited access to affordable long-term finance, and global economic uncertainty, manufacturers have shown strong determination to expand production and remain competitive.
Together, we can achieve our ultimate goal: enhancing the manufacturing sector's contribution to 20% of GDP by 2030!
Bally's goal for Zambia to produce 3 million tonnes of Soya beans per year is taking shape as part of his 10-10-5-3-3-1-1 vision for our country.
While in Chipata, I visited Good Nature Ago (GNA), who are a leading agriculture company involved in seed and agro commodity production of soya beans, groundnuts, cowpeas, beans, maize, among other agro products.
We appreciate GNA's devotion to growing the agriculture sector and their answering of the call by the President to add to enhancing Zambia's agricultural output.
We also appreciate their immense social impact, working with 30,000 farmers and stimulating the agricultural ecosystem in the Eastern province and Zambia at large.

The Imisepela Community Revolving Fund is designed to provide seed capital to be managed by youths themselves as guided in this recent Imisepela Masterclass that took place in Mwinilunga...
We held a Community Business Masterclass in the Luangwa Community of Kitwe. We taught lessons in business and also released an allocation of the Imisepela Community Fund, courtesy of President Hakainde Hichilema.
Never underestimate the power of investing in young people. By investing in education, school feeding and support for students in tertiary institutions through bursaries and meal allowances, we are creating a way for millions to have a bright future.
Bally committed to this 5 years ago and he made it a reality. Now, he wants to take it to the next level so more young people can shape the future we desire!
Over the last 5 years, we've interacted with marketeers from almost every district. Their needs are known and in addition to facilitating a conducive mechanism for them to access capital, we continue to equip them with added business skills and critical assets.
The next phase will be to formalise our community fund project where each marketeer has visibility of how much they can access, who has accessed, and the timelines for the beneficiaries to pay back in order for others to benefit.
