@TriangleCyclops@danio13@TheStrxggler I get it, but then the other side of this is people getting their lives destroyed over "vibes", you know what I mean? Let people be weird, wait for a bloody knife or something to show up before we start setting up the gallows.
@Mynameismimikyu@eeBAHeeCanales The second layer of this being, of course, that there are more than a few people out there whose stock life is such that they would rather be a bateman than whatever they got going at the moment. Even superficially having your shit together would be better.
@Mynameismimikyu@eeBAHeeCanales It's not so much the characters being radicals, it's that they're interestingly flawed. If a loser is compelling to follow in his nonsense, I'm gonna at least root for him in the sense that I wanna see what he gets up to next, regardless of whether I'd agree with them.
@scottwolf14@DragonxFlutter @supershark404 @Tyras_Mikhail That *hurts* to remember. They were doing so good too! I even ended up doing a uni presentation on games-as-art basically derived of his own one way back then.
@scottwolf14@DragonxFlutter @supershark404 @Tyras_Mikhail Highly recommend the principles of animation series Dan did. It's super solid, honestly learned a couple things from it.
@scottwolf14@DragonxFlutter @supershark404 @Tyras_Mikhail Eh it's okay. His animation analysis videos are pretty good, his LP content is mid at best. He did however leave at the time the other dude was having *alegations* thrown at him so that seems to be a bit more than just coincidental.
@CurtyTails @KeziaPTH @PandasAndVidya Heck they were SO MUCH BETTER communities too! You'd log in to your local low latency server, you'd say hello to the regulars, befriend them, get into their voice chat servers to shoot the shit. It was how we made online buddies a couple decades before discord was a thing.
@CurtyTails @KeziaPTH @PandasAndVidya They always did. They had deals with server providers across the world to set up the original batch of official Battlefield servers back in the early 2000s. And before that it was all user hosted and paid for, like early Counterstrike.
@KeziaPTH @CurtyTails @PandasAndVidya Guys, being the overwhelming majority of the space for the longest time, are used to it, and have largely learned to deal with it. They're not the ones raising a stink.
@KeziaPTH @CurtyTails @PandasAndVidya I think you're too fixated on the inclusion being a gendered issue to be fair. If you were to make the community entirely female you're gonna see the same amount of griefing, just cattier and more passive aggressive. Personally I'd rather be called a faggot and be done with it.
@KeziaPTH @CurtyTails @PandasAndVidya Cultural change is a generational movement. Any short term fix can be easily sidestepped unless you want to engineer something that would universally seem as despotic by everyone involved and would irrevocably bite the "victims" in the ass as well.
@KeziaPTH @CurtyTails @PandasAndVidya I think the problem is twofold. Assholes aren't a gendered issue, it just so happens gaming has been more attractive to males for a longer time so that's the human stock you have to deal with. It is however very normal for people to be cretins. Deal with it as an adult.
@GamesNosh@PandasAndVidya Specifically would have had a point, ironically, since there were a bunch of properties that attracted a lot more women in the early arcade times. It's the reason they made Ms. Pacman. After that? Not so much.
@KainYusanagi@KevinDahmer@PandasAndVidya I mean, fuck, The Sims is a digital dollhouse and getting a huge block of the female consumer market into pc gaming with that filled the coffers of EA for the better part of the 2000s. They're STILL selling the expansions to this day!
