I dreamed of playing professional cricket — couldn’t.

My dream job was to join the Indian Army — cleared the first CDSE in 1996 but was rejected at the Allahabad SSB interview.

Then came teaching — cleared State Level Eligibility Test for lectureship, joined as Lecturer in Geography at DAV College, Chandigarh, and truly enjoyed that one academic year.

Cleared UPSC Prelims in the first attempt and same year, I got selected in HCS in the first attempt and stayed on the path.

Missed my first three choices, yet life kept surprising me — leading to where I am today in the IAS.

First the government snatched millions of tonnes of maize meant to feed our animals and poured it straight into ethanol distilleries for E20 petrol.

For context back in 2017 and 18 maize used for Ethanol blending was zero percent. Today it is a shocking 45.68 percent.

Obviously there was a crisis, the government self inflicted it & made the shortage happen. Then to cover it up during the Indo-US trade deal our government agreed 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙂𝙈 𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙣 𝙗𝙮𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝘿𝘿𝙂𝙎 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙘𝙠. The White House offered duty concessions on 6 Feb 2026. Shri Piyush Goyal ji admitted the livestock feed shortage and justified the import of GM corn byproduct DDGS.

Now think about this, the reason we are pushing for Ethanol blended Fuel is to save our forex but here, a product that INDIA was exporting, we will now be importing!! 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙞𝙨 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙚𝙙 𝘼𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙂𝙈𝙊 𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙣 𝙗𝙮𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙨.

Ethanol is hygroscopic & contains around 30% less energy per litre than petrol. If ethanol never caused any issues, why do automakers publish E10/20 compatibility lists, change fuel systems, and recalibrate ECUs? These are engineering facts, not political opinions. Denying them does not change chemistry.

The Govt is trying to fool us on the issue of the Ethanol blending policy. Firstly the Ethanol blending policy started in the 1970's in Brazil. They built a 360° infrastructure. In the US : E20 petrol is not mandated & you have other choices. Also unblended petrol is approx ₹165/ litre in INDIA versus average ₹109/ litre in the US.
