KIDS: Nick Blankenburg scored the OT winner for Nashville this weekend, on the ice with Filip Forsberg and Steven Stamkos.
This was his journey to the NHL:
Age 17 - High school hockey in Michigan
Age 18 - 18u Tier 1 AAA
Age 19 - AJHL (Tier 2 junior in Canada)
Age 20 - Freshman walk on at University of Michigan
Age 23 - Captain at Michigan
Age 24 - Signs an NHL contract, plays for Team USA at the World Championships
Everyone has a different path. I want to say that again - everyone has a different path.
If you don’t have things figured out right now, focus on what you can control and get to work. Nick’s legacy at Michigan as a leader and a true worker are legendary. He’s a 5’9” defenseman that’s had to earn his way everywhere he's gotten and he's persevered through a ton of adversity to achieve his dream.
What a person to look up to for any kid out there with a dream.
