Wealthy Dutch Jews, offering gold and global intelligence networks that would serve as the seedbed for the British empire, demanded Cromwell try and wipe out Catholicism and de-Europeanize English culture (persecuting English playwrites, outlawing music, banning Christmas, etc) as a pre condition for any alliance.

The Jews were afraid of the inquisition and wanted to transform Britain from a bastion of high Western culture into an anti-European capitalist bulwark dedicated to combating anti-Semitism and preserving Jewish business interests.
