I've seen a lot of authors wonder if hiring an editor is even worth it and I wanna say, it totally is. And I've come up with 5 Reasons You Should Hire an Editor 🧵

Heyyyy, everyone. I’m going to be at the Precinct in DTLA for the Queerlastic Book Fair! I’ll be giving away books I wrote, bookmarks, candy, and some extra treats you’ll have to see to for yourself :) It’s this Saturday the 29th from 2-8pm.

A quick reminder for writers:
Proofreading catches small errors.
Editing strengthens your writing.
They aren't the same, and your manuscript may need more than just a spell check.
Save this for when you're preparing to publish.
Unpopular opinion: Straight quotes are a waste of time UNLESS the commas are also straight. Otherwise what’s the point?? I get distracted by the curly comma but the straight quote 😭
🚨Please help🚨 How can I do a mind map for a memoir? Someone in my writers group suggested it, but I don’t understand how to get started. Can someone please help? 😭🙏🏽
• Leave a thoughtful comment on a post in your niche today.
• Then write a short post about what stood out, and why it sparked something for you.
• Tag the creator if it feels natural.
It’s crazy that in regular speech we use directionals all the time but in writing I cut them out: “Float up,” “sit down,” “jump up,” and more.
They directionals are completely redundant so that’s why they’re removed during copy edits, but irl it sounds weird NOT to say them.
