The scenes of Paredes getting involved in clashes are despicable. It’s classless.
An embarrassing image to give to the world. I see it too often when Boca is eliminated from Copa Libertadores.
We don’t know how to lose. Let’s be gracious in defeat, especially when you deserve to lose.
@AndresCantorGOL Preferible eso a escucharte llorar en el micrófono viejo insoportable. Argentina es grande y tu falta de profesionalismo se refleja mal en Argentina. Ajusta y volvé a narrar como debe ser.
Im not asking you to understand the politics and diplomacy. What I want you to understand is the Argentine psyche.
Imagine being born and everyone around you holds contempt for England. Perhaps for a war you didn’t experience. But your parents did. They might know someone who died. Or a veteran.
You’re taught at a young age “Las Malvinas son argentinas.” Maradona in 86. It wasn’t cheating, it was REVENGE. They stole from you, so you steal from them.
Scaloni downplayed the historic significance of this match. But for the people of Argentina, that’s impossible to do. There’s a complex, broken relationship with England that is innate in Argentine culture. It’s part of the national identity.
44 years have passed since then. Of course, some hatchets have been buried and olive branches have been extended in this globalized world. But deep down inside, this football victory just means a little bit more.

American Documentarian, and founder of SOLI @Matt_VanDyke, held in India on Hunger Strike—U.S. Embassy Silent
Matthew VanDyke is detained at Tihar jail, on a 50-day hunger strike, and waiting for answers from his own government. Matthew was arrested without due process, incommunicated from his elderly parents, denied medical care, and now his health is deteriorating.
His family has been asking the U.S. Embassy for basic diplomatic help—a consular visit, a letter, anything—but they're getting nowhere. Meanwhile, Matthew sits in Tihar jail in New Delhi with a leg injury he didn't have before detention, denied the medications and nutrition he needs to recover. His mother traveled to DC to advocate for him. His legal team filed requests. Nothing.
Here's what's happening:
- Arrested March 11th without explanation; transferred through NIA detention center, then to Tihar on April 6th
- The court denied him regular contact with his elderly parents
- Court refused his request for private hospital care (his family would pay)
- He's been denied prescription meds and proper nutrition
- He started a hunger strike on May 6th to get answers
This is about a U.S. citizen not getting basic consular support when he needs it most. Sign and share the petition below.
