In line with our ASSURED Prosperity Agenda in this second term, we have begun the revolution in agriculture with the flag-off of the 2024-2025 dry season farming today at the rice farm in Otuasega, Ogbia Local Government Area.
I am happy that the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Professor Beke Sese, is on the right track to guide our deliberate plan for massive investments in food production.
I was particularly delighted to see the trainees who just returned from the CSS farms in Nassarawa State, and also the youths that were trained on soil-less farming in Ogun State, at the event and my message to them was οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½Let us make Bayelsa State self-sufficient in food production and ultimately a food basket in Nigeria.β
Our government will continue to support the farmers with training, improved seedlings, other farm inputs, fertilizers, and tools to boost their capacity and production.
I declared at the event to be the number one farmer in Bayelsa State with my own farm and then directed all our appointees to own their own farms.
Deliberately, we must concentrate on planting crops where the state has a comparative advantage, including rice, plantain, banana, cassava, oil palm, and others, bearing in mind that Bayelsa soil is truly rich for farming.
Indeed, agriculture is the way to our economic revival and diversification away from oil and gas.
