[WATCH] THE LGE CAMPAIGN IS LED BY THE ANC AND OTHERS FOLLOW.
The campaign is ANC driven and the face of the campaign is President Cyril Ramaphosa. We can go into elections without mayoral candidates and elect them after the campaign won’t be hindered. The President is the face.
We have taken a different course compared to other parties where we have interviewed our candidates and we take those people who have undergone a rigorous process of interviews and vetting to South Africans. We then ask South African that these candidates be given a mandate for the next 5 years. This process also involves the councillor candidates, who are undergoing the same vetting and processes of the ANC. They have gone to community meetings. The ANC will field more than 10 000 candidates. This is the first time the ANC interviews and selects Mayor candidates before the election.
We will announce our Mayoral candidates during our manifesto launch. We have met IEC requirements in terms of payments. We are contesting these elections wall to wall. We are the incumbents the people are looking at us for leadership whilst we at the same time are asking them to renew our mandate as the African National Congress.
We are not contesting anyone but asking South Africans to renew our mandate. A manifesto is not drafted abstractly but informed by the material conditions on the ground and it is a response to that, on what we going to do to fix these issues for our people. The ANC has an obligation to account to society and also defend our positions. To account on what we have done and what we havent done and how we will fix that. The ANC leads the elections campaign as the incumbent.

[WATCH] Before I was SG I once said things about Nkosazana which I withdrew, publicly and I apologised. I said she is JZ wife. It was wrong for me to say that and I apologised to the NEC and to her. Because my mother in her grave would never allow me to say such things, I should have never judged Mam Nkosazana and her track record on the basis of her being Jacob Zumas wife. It was wrong to say that about a veteran of our movement. So we all say things but we must reflect and apologise.
I hold her in high regard but I will never allow anyone to say things about me that I did not do such as dishing out money.

“ANC STATEMENT ON ORGANISATIONAL AND NATIONAL MATTERS” - by ANC Secretary General, Cde Fikile Mbalula

#MBALULA: It was in Angola, following that country's own hard-won independence from Portuguese colonialism in 1975, that Umkhonto we Sizwe found the ground on which to train and to organise. Novo Catengue, which our cadres came to call the University of the South, became the intellectual and military home of a generation until it was bombed by the apartheid air force in 1979. Our combatants moved further into Angola and continued, undeterred, to prepare for the day South Africa would be free.
[WATCH] Today the Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula accompanied by the ANC Acting National Spokesperson Nonceba Mhlauli arrived at the media briefing on the Angola Repatriation process undertaken by our government. Many African National Congress Umkhonto WeSizwe combatants were killed in our frontline states fighting against the apartheid regime. Today the government gave an update on the process.

[WATCH] None of this is the end of the journey, and we do not pretend that unemployment, inequality and poverty have been defeated. But it is the clearest demonstration of our commitment to make the promise of a better life for all a lived reality, honouring the sacrifice of our comradesin Angola's camps and battlefields.
The ANC's mission has never been about a mere change of flag and a seat in Parliament. Our movement remains committed to the National Democratic Revolution: the building of a non-racial, non-sexist, united and prosperoussociety in which political freedom is matched by economic freedom. That means accelerating land reform, deepening industrialisation and localisation, transforming ownership patterns in our economy, and ensuring that growth translates into jobs for young South Africans who were born free but still wait for the economy to open its doors to them.
The names we hope to bring home from Angola belonged to men and women who believed such a society was possible. Completing that work is the only fitting tribute we can offer them.
To the families gathered here, and to those still waiting at home for news of a parent, a sibling, a child: the African National Congress stands with you, as it has stood with the people of Angola since the 1970s, and we will not rest until every story that can be told, is told, and every combatant who can be brought home, is brought home.
I thank you.

Today, on behalf of the ANC, I participated in a media briefing on the Angola Repatriation process undertaken by the Government of South Africa. This briefing reaffirms our collective commitment to ensuring that the repatriation process is conducted with dignity, transparency, and compassion, while supporting affected families every step of the way.
The ANC remains committed to working alongside government and all stakeholders to uphold the values of accountability, unity, and service to the people.

#Mbalula: In recent weeks the world and our own people paused to honour Nelson Mandela on the international day that bears his name. To honour Madiba is to measure ourselves against what he stood for: a South Africa that belongs to all who live in it and so we speak today of an economy that must be shared; reconciliation anchored in the rule of law and so we speak of the courts and the commissions; the humble service of the people and so we speak of water and of local government; and an African before all else and so we speak of our neighbours, and of the ubuntu that binds us. This is the standard we hold ourselves to this morning.
