@SarahPipes17 I am with you on this, I personally have to dig deep or find myself thinking more than listening, but I am now thinking how to do this asynchronous so students have time to respond
@HansaNarang17 While we were virtual I made it a point to ask what they had for lunch. They loved to share prior to starting math, if I reacted they were more involved with our lessons and kept their camera on!
@FREEMAN_Outside@HerrildKelsey @KaciKepferland I had a similar turn out when student knew it was going to be a get to know you scavenger hunt. I had movement and communication
“Asynchronous communication allows for more reflection before responding, and each learner can respond”yes I have heard from some of the quietest students where they would stay silent in person. #643Sp21#NotADog
“Coffee shop” my students definitely need this time to be off topic. In fact staff meetings need to have this time at the beginning just to say hi #643Sp21#NotADog
“Educators have always desired that their students interact” I find myself trying to be creative to get students to turn on their cameras so I know they are able to interact #643Sp21#NotADog
@FREEMAN_Outside I have always thought about building a website to keep communication open even after they have moved on. I always say once they are my student they will always be my student.
@MsKaileySevel I start every morning asking about their night or weekend. I make many mental notes so when I am teaching I connect with something they have shared with me. I enjoy 4th graders surprised looks as they feel they are someone special fo me to remember! Just one way
@Kirksey_choir I have been dealing with this just this week, my students are learning quickly they can’t hide behind the screen and tell adults at home they don’t have anything to do. I can hold them accountable and use the videos to support and model personal learning
@innovative_inq@AmandaD27557349 I feel the same, the potential is great, i find most don’t use it but I try focusing on the few that do. In the classroom I enjoy recorded lessons for a flipped classroom model, it fees me up to support my low students
These articles are hard to picture in elementary as they express the importance of communication. The teacher gave out her cell phone for text. I like using apps like ClassDojo so I still get notifications texts instead.#643Sp21#GetPresent
Knowledgeable Experience section talked about students with strong writing skills helping or modeling for struggling students. I try this in person as well as online with “volunteer experts” #643Sp21#GetPresent
“When we see our students face to face, we see facial expressions and body language” Although the article suggest doing this through messaging and chats, through feedback. Elementary students struggle to use those features correctly. Better for secondary #643Sp#GetPresent
