A delivery man had no idea Mark Knopfler was writing down his complaints.

They became a No. 1 hit.

In 1984, Knopfler was in a New York appliance store when he overheard a delivery man watching MTV and complaining about the rock stars on the screens.

The guy's comments were so good that Knopfler borrowed a pen and paper and started writing them down.

Those words and that point of view became the foundation for Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing."

Released in 1985, the song spent three weeks at No. 1 in America.

One delivery man complaining about rock stars helped create one of the biggest rock songs of the '80s.
