An independent report by auditors KPMG has revealed @unboxed2022 brought benefits of £175.5m. Anyone who claims the programme was a waste of tax payers' money is therefore speaking in defiance of the evidence. Glad we've settled that one.
@newsscape Oh. I see what you mean by a "one off event" mentality. Not all of the projects suffered in that way. Our Place in Space will have a home in Ulster. Dandelion will continue. Dreamachine research is on-going and the machine itself will tour etc.
UNBOXED was never about Brexit. Take a proper look at the programme and this is abundantly clear. It is, however, about the UK - the four nations - and most importantly the people who choose to call these islands home. https://t.co/umA6OuZU3Z
@newsscape I wonder what you mean by lacked an "event" mentality? There was a conscious decision to work in areas under-served by capital cultural investment. Are you referring to that? It facilitated making work rooted in places rather than a singular place.
@newsscape@unboxed2022@DandelionScot Thank you. To me there is a world of difference between a post-Brexit festival and a Festival of Brexit. Nobody wants the latter but the former - making hopeful experiences with communities across all four nations - is a beautiful response to a county in trauma.
@newsscape@unboxed2022@DandelionScot Thanks for that perspective. But it hasn't answered my question. UNBOXED never was a Festival of Brexit. So why do people continue to believe that it was? I would really like to understand that.
@newsscape@unboxed2022@DandelionScot It was certainly a radical approach to commissioning... Can you help me with something? Why do people hold onto the idea it was a festival of Brexit when it so clearly wasn't? I would really like to understand this.
