My last post on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Maybe.
The blue coating has now all pretty much peeled away, leaving the beautiful granite bottom of the pool fully exposed. This was obviously Trump’s plan all along.
The President is always playing 4-D chess.
I know very little about basketball but I do know a bit about public speaking and I can say without any hyperbole that @ZohranKMamdani is one of the greatest public speakers alive on planet earth right now.
Chills.
Italian PM Meloni to Trump:
So, certain things deserve an immediate response.
Donald Trump's statements are completely fabricated. I am frankly appalled. I don't know why the President of the United States behaves this way towards his allies; after all, it's not the first time it's happened.
I can only say it's a pity that he doesn't show the same determination with the enemies of the West, with the enemies of the United States, with leaders towards whom he instead proves to be much more accommodating.
But he must remember one thing: Italy and I never beg.
It is often said that soccer is more than a game. That truth was evident as I joined residents at the Bruckner Boulevard shelter in the Bronx to watch Senegal take on France in the World Cup.
In the United States, the culture of soccer has long been carried by immigrants — people who have brought their clubs, traditions, and love of the game with them from around the world. Many of the residents at Bruckner know what it means to leave one home behind while seeking refuge in another, and the immense challenges that journey can bring.
For just a few hours, the match offered something more than entertainment. It offered humanity, reprieve, and a momentary break from hardship. Most importantly, it offered community. For so many people around the world, that is what makes soccer the beautiful game.
If you want to live more than just one life, read voraciously. Reading lets you live the lives of others.
When you read a book about a physical activity, your brain simulates it as if you were actually doing it.
Neuroscience has shown that reading about running, for instance, engages the motor cortex.
Reading activates the same networks that process real emotions and bodily movements — the characters' experiences feel like your own. In a very real sense, they ARE your own experiences.
Deep reading also alters brain connectivity in a way that persists for days after finishing the book. A good novel physically reshapes parts of your brain.
There's a reason the great men of history read the great men who came before...
"An illiterate person who dies, let us say at my age, has lived one life, whereas I have lived the lives of Napoleon, Caesar, d'Artagnan. So I always encourage young people to read books, because it's an ideal way to develop a great memory and a ravenous multiple personality. And then at the end of your life you have lived countless lives, which is a fabulous privilege."
― Umberto Eco
I get yelled at for saying this but children enjoy a challenge and it's good for them to read books that are a bit difficult. In my experience, adults are the ones trying to keep them from classics while the kids are aching to read Homer, Jane Austen and Jane Eyre.
“What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfilment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.”

Excerpt : “The goals of Freedom 250 & America 250 have frequently conflicted. The Trump administration is withholding tens of millions of dollars from America 250, which says it now faces a $100 million shortfall & has simultaneously funneled at least $68 million to Freedom 250”
Victims’ services are funded via fines and penalties from white-collar crime convictions, which have declined under President Trump.
