Earlier today on MSNBC’s #MorningJoe, I sat down with Blair Underwood to discuss his latest project shedding light on the historic Black community of Black Bottom in Detroit.
Blair spoke about first learning of Black Bottom through Dominique Morisseau’s play Paradise Blue and how it disturbed him that so many of us, including himself had never heard of this thriving Black neighborhood that existed before the civil rights movement.
These stories matter, and they remind us of the strength, brilliance, and resilience of our people even under the weight of Jim Crow. We must keep telling our stories.

I believe the job of a writer is beyond important to society. It is a necessity. And I’ve never heard this point made so clearly as it is made in Chapter 1 of #TheMessage by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
It was fun getting the crew together to play with our toys for a few hours making this video logo for my production company. This video is 100% created with human artistic labor.
