Chris Espinosa is currently the longest-serving employee at Apple. He joined in 1976 at the age of 14, writing BASIC code while the company was still based in Steve Jobs' garage.

Espinosa holds a unique place in technology history as Apple's longest-serving employee. After joining in'76, he helped Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak test software, write BASIC programs, and create documentation from a suburban garage in California.

Unlike many early employees who moved into management or left to start their own companies, Espinosa spent nearly five decades doing what he loves, contributing to generations of Apple products. His work touched projects ranging from the Apple II and Macintosh to HyperCard, AppleScript, Xcode, macOS, and modern Apple software tools.

Few people have witnessed Apple's entire transformation firsthand, from a startup hand-assembling computers to a global company employing more than 160,000 people and producing some of the world's most influential consumer technology.

Steve Jobs convinced him to quit college. Espinosa briefly attended UC Berkeley, but Jobs persuaded him to return full-time to Apple in 1981. He literally slept under desks in Apple's early days. Like many of the first employees, he worked long hours in cramped quarters when the company was still a tiny startup.
