Full time Head of Quality and Compliance in FE, sometimes lecturer of Leadership in Education (MA) programmes in HE, finding the time to complete an EdD
Really good, we should definitely look to promote and integrate these into management development and review in the same way we do with the teaching standards
Whether youโre an aspiring, middle or senior leader, the @E_T_Foundation's new Professional Standards for Leaders help to set out a framework for excellence in leadership across the FE sector.

Amazing effort by my college for @macmillancancer support coffee morning, and even got to sample a lovely cake donated by a Bake off professionals winner #LoveOurColleges
Nice to know the government is adding epidemiologist to the many roles of FE lecturers. A very difficult decision to make and one that should not be in our hands.
UPDATE: The DfE has just released the following statement.
'Schools and colleges can continue with the vocational and technical exams that are due to take place in January, where they judge it right to do so.'
@SidaNicholls @BERA_TED I agree, but how can we change the stigma around observation to shift the perception of the process as a developmental one compared to a judgemental one? I feel when you try to give developmental feedback and converse it is received defensively and perceived as a judgement
@BERA_TED @MrsSarahMullin I completely agree and itโs such a shame how rare it is to catch these moments due to the stigma and anxiety surrounding the fear of judgement of having anyone in the classroom watching you.
@BERA_TED We need to make staff identify their professional development as a priority and seek out these opportunities, rather than prioritising tasks to serve institutional tick boxes in their spare time
@BERA_TED @BERANews Iโve been a part of teaching triangle initiatives, although there has always been a form of hierarchy involved, as the final outcome must be outlined to management. This removes the honesty and openness of the process and feels as if staff canโt be trusted to do a meaningful job
@BERA_TED @BERANews I feel an element of formal training is required to give credibility to decisions as it seems in FE setting a hierarchal position = eligibility to assess teaching and learning, which I feel is not always the case.
Reading online is not really the same as having a hard copy. So Iโm about to get some highlighters out and make the most of it. I hope itโs not too distracting when itโs your turn @joefromFE!
Any recommended books?
Very excited to be accepted on to the #APConnect Communities of Practice professional development programme! I am very excited to get started @E_T_Foundation @touchcons_FE @APConnectUK
As an Advanced Practitioner going into my 4th year, I find it difficult to find the time and quality resources to keep myself updated on how to efficiently observe lessons and support those preparing for lesson observation. This book would be a great support for the upcoming year
Last day to enter this competition ๐๐ฝ. Entries close at 6pm UK time. Winner will be chosen & announced tomorrow morning & signed copy of the book posted to you
