"My mission is to go play the best baseball we can, and give these kids the best opportunity they can, to accomplish something really special."
—West Virginia coach Steve Sabins on the Mountaineers capturing historic win at MCWS 👏
.@WVUBaseball LHP Ben McDougal has only pitched 12.2 innings this season.
With 2 outs and the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year representing the tying run at the plate, Coach Steve Sabins tapped the Bridgeport, WV native to get the 1-out save.
“McDougal has had ice water in his veins man, he’s a killer. He’s one of the most quiet guys, and humble guys. He’s from the state of West Virginia and in every big moment he’s ever been put in he’s basically been himself or elevated.”
Coming into today’s game Ben Lumsden notched at least one hit in ALL 7 of West Virginia’s NCAA Tournament games.
Not only did Lumsden lay down 2 crucial sacrifice bunts in today’s game, he sacrificed his @WVUBaseball NCAAT hit streak.
“Postseason Lummer is incredible. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like having Barry Bonds up in front of me.” -Tyrus Hall
“I don’t know that [Ben] Lumsden has a sacrifice all season. So to have two really big ones is huge,” West Virginia Coach Steve Sabins said.
This was included in a response given to @noahdarling_’s question about the bottom of @WVUBaseball’s lineup that has been raking in the postseason
The only thing greater than Mountaineer Nation’s passion is their uncanny ability to see balls and strikes from the Randy’s Ridge vantage point. 🙌
