One thing fatherhood has completely wrecked for me is the idea that being busy automatically means I’m doing something important.
Sometimes the important thing is sitting on the floor with my child doing absolutely nothing impressive.
I know Christians who are terrified of ambition because they don’t want money to become their god.
Fair concern.
But wasting the ability God gave you isn’t automatically humility either.
Yeah brother. I still care about building and doing meaningful work, but fatherhood changed what I’m willing to trade for it.
Five years ago I probably would’ve chased certain opportunities just because they were big, exciting or good for my career.
Now I think a lot more about the cost. Time away. Energy. What kind of husband and dad I am when I get home.
I’m still ambitious. I’m just much more selective about what deserves that ambition.
I’ve seen people destroy perfectly good lives trying to prove they were meant for something bigger. Bigger is not always better. Sometimes better is deeper.
