Zelenskyy’s actions suggest that he is unwilling to let pressure from Washington or Moscow stop Ukraine from defending its interests. However, striking a Russian oil terminal does not necessarily mean he is no longer afraid of the consequences of confronting either Putin or Trump. It may instead reflect a calculated military and political decision.

The key distinction is that being fearless does not mean having no fear; it means being willing to take risks despite the consequences.

The latest reports say the terminal in Rostov-on-Don caught fire following a drone attack on October 9–10, 2026, although Ukraine had not officially claimed responsibility in the reporting I found. Zelenskyy also publicly criticised Trump’s decision to ease sanctions on Russian fuel exports.

So, rather than saying he is no longer afraid, it is fair to say that Zelenskyy is showing he is prepared to challenge decisions by powerful allies when he believes Ukraine’s security is at stake. That is a strong message, but it does not prove he has no fear of the consequences.
