The year is 1999. Manchester United have just beaten Bayern Munich in the final minutes, in what was an unlikely win, to clinch the Champions League & complete the unprecedented treble. Every United fan is delirious. Some were laughing, others were jumping and hugging each other.

Suddenly the camera zooms in. In a corner sat a man with a United T-shirt who looked angry and was muttering to himself. The behavior was odd for someone whose team had just won the treble. Immediately the producers asked their reporter to interview him. The reporter approached the man asked him why he looked desolate despite his team winning the CL? The man turned to the camera and said:

"Bayern Munich produced more shots, more xG, more possession, more time in opponents half, more attacking actions than Manchester United. Then how can I be happy with the result?"

Fans will probably be a bit miffed that VAR John Brooks intervened for a violent conduct red card for Lisandro Martinez for a bit of a hair pull.

But decided Gabriel pushing his forehead into Erling Haaland's face was "not excessively aggressive or violent".

Monday Night Football 2025/26

MNF fixtures are known until Mon 4th May (GW35) and it's a very uneven picture. #EFC and #MUFC a big draw for broadcasters but these unsocial slots cost travelling fans extra time off work etc.

We understood no club was meant to play more than 5 games in these Mon/Fri slots but that's clearly not happening and it's not fair on those supporters.

Both the broadcasters and Premier League have questions to answer on this and we'll be raising these TV/fixture issues at our upcoming supporter engagement meetings.

Broadcasters put a lot of money into the game but, as we saw through Covid, without a crowd football just isn't the same. Matchgoers deserve respect.

Refereeing mistakes on the field and through the video assistant referee have risen across most categories in this season's Premier League.

At the same stage last season there had been 44 VAR and on-field errors logged.
