After the cancellation of our third visit weekend, if you are an interested prospective graduate student and would like to speak to Erik or a group member, please don’t hesitate to DM us!
Check out our collaboration with the Davies Group @Huw78347000 on the synthesis and reactivity of bis-diazo compounds, now out in Org Lett! Congratulations Dylan! https://t.co/tN1Nij0buC
The "you should know this" attitude perpetuated by many advisors is useless in #gradschool. It discourages incredible scientists in training, is a blatant illustration of poor communication skills, and slows research progress since expectations are not clear.

People in the majority group get to feel like they belong until someone says that they don’t.
People in minoritized groups often feel like they don’t belong until someone says that they do.
When you aim to explain your research with clarity, you make the person you’re talking to feel smart.
When you aim to explain your research in a way that makes you sound smart, you make the person you’re talking to feel dumb.
A PhD is about learning how to learn. The research you want to be doing 20 years from now probably doesn’t even exist yet, so what you really need to gain in grad school is the ability to dive into a new area, learn, and develop mastery.#PhDchat
@Chemjobber When you finish a PhD in total synthesis they take you to a special room and tell you secondary metabolites aren't real and all natural products are just isolation artefacts.
I am posting this at great physical risk to myself and my family.
When you finish a PhD in chemistry they take you in a special room and tell you that tenure-track professorships aren't real and all professors are just really old postdocs.

First day of organic synthesis class today! The cardinal rule for chemical reactivity, among other things: “that which has attacketh that which hath not”
