@visualviti @ZAVineHugger Maar daar is sommige gevalle wat die Na en K in die grond heeltemal te hoog raak en geen hoendermis of kompos kan meer toegedien word nie. En dit is waar die probleme begin ontstaan en verbrakking n probleem raak as daar droogte kom.

@visualviti @ZAVineHugger @visualviti stem saam, daar is dodgy kompos tans in die mark. As jy die skoon kompos net so ontleed lyk dit oor die algemeen swak. Ons het gevind dat, as jy die grond onder die komposlaag meet waar die kompos toegedien was so +-3jaar later, dan lyk die analises nie so swak nie.

@ZAVineHugger Hi Johan. Om biodinamies/organies te boer soos julle doen, is dit die enigste bekostigbare manier tans - "black gold". Vat langer om daar te kom maar as die grond, dekgewasse en wingerd saam in simbiose kom en vir mekaar begin sorg, dit is die golden triangle.

@S_Seome @Vinpro_za @RicoBasson As we have an annual winter rainfall, and this is for dryland vineyards, the hydromorphic soils would get too wet in the winter when the vines are dormant. The sandy, bleaced soils would dry out very quickly in summer as these have a low water-holding capacity.

Did a soil survey today to determine the suitability for vineyards, and the outcome is unfortunately not looking good. Knowledge of your soil should always form the foundation of your planning. @Vinpro_za @RicoBasson

@jamiegoode @alain_deloire @gregorygambetta @dylgrigg @sabrosiavit We saw this in the Western Cape, South Africa, in the early growing season as well. It was a relatively cool, wet early season and signs of induced Fe deficiencies was observed on younger 🍃. Leaf analises verified this and when the subsoil temp increased the deficiency subsided.

Before planting new vineyards, we dig profile pits and do a complete soil analysis of the area. This allows us to accurately determine the soils growth potential, as well as what cultivar to plant.
