๐ People across the Borders want and need better bus services, so Iโm delighted that Scottish Borders Council has launched a new bus route providing a direct link between Hawick, Lilliesleaf, Midlem and Selkirk and the Borders General Hospital.
Watch my journey below, and a big thank you to our driver Graeme.๐
Itโs a great alternative for people who canโt drive, or simply donโt want to, and Iโd encourage everyone to give it a try if they can!

๐ I was extremely disappointed when the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service pressed ahead with downgrading Hawick Fire Station from full-time, 24-hour cover to daytime-only provision.
Today, alongside @Rachael2Win, the Chairman of Hawick Community Council Cameron Knox, and Hon Provost Cllr Clair Ramage, we met Assistant Chief Fire Officer David Farries at Hawick Fire Station.
Hawick needs proper fire service provision, and these cuts could put lives at risk, particularly with major new developments planned for the area.
They have told me that they will keep the service under review, and if there are detrimental changes, they will reconsider services at the fire station.
โ๏ธ I love a coffee, and it was great to meet the team at @CostaCoffee in Kelso this morning to hear more about the Costa Community Grants initiative.
It was fantastic to hear about their recent ยฃ1,000 grant to Cheviot Youth, which Iโm sure will make a real difference.
Thank you to Costa Ambassador Abigail Simpson, Store Manager Lesa Learmonth, Area Manager Lewis Stewart and barista Becky Nock for their warm welcome.
๐ฌ๐ง Itโs another fantastic day at the Border Union Show.
Brilliant to see so many of the people who keep our rural economy thriving coming together.
Itโs another incredible Border Union Show, showcasing the very best our rural economy has to offer.
If youโre coming along today, come and say hello at my stand. ๐
It was fantastic to attend the official reopening of Kelso Abbey following extensive masonry works, ahead of our townโs 900th anniversary in 2028.
It has taken a huge amount of hard work to reach this milestone, and I want to pay tribute to everyone involved for their dedication and commitment.
Kelso Abbeyโs gates - which have been locked since 2021 - will finally reopen!
๐ A great start to the Border Union Show, supporting the Four Fat Dads Tartan Tractor Raffle, in aid of @MNDoddie5.

These are all in addition to the regular surgeries I hold across the Scottish Borders throughout the year.
I welcome action to cut the cost of energy which is too high because of Ed Milibandโs policies.
But the question is how will Burnham fund all his new policies without putting up taxes or borrowing even more.
Until yesterday, Darren Jones was in charge of DigitalID and the Chief Secretary to the PM. So if he tells people the DigitalID programme was unfunded, he will know what heโs talking about. Itโs only one day into Burnhamโs Government and already the explanations are falling apart. You canโt use the funding from an unfunded programme to pay for cheaper bills.
Conservatives have set out our fully funded Cheap Power Plan that will cut family energy bills by ยฃ200, including by cutting their VAT. We are paying for that by getting Britain drilling and scrapping Net Zero policies. John Healey should take a look at it and steal our ideas.
Itโs falling apart already.
Labour say they will fund a VAT cut to energy bills by scrapping their proposed Digital ID cards.
But the cuts to the Digital ID card budget are not real because the money was never provided for in the first place. As the OBR stated in November last year the annual ยฃ600 million cost was unfunded as the government was relying on absorbing the provisional spend across departments without specifying where the savings would be made.ย
We are only one day in and already Labour are playing fast and loose with the public finances.
Labour should be doing what the Conservatives called for months ago โ taking VAT off energy bills in a fully funded way by scrapping net zero subsidies.
