It was the honour of a lifetime to have served as mayor of this city, the city I love and will always hold dearly in my heart.

You’ve given me a lot to think about and I want to assure you I have given it serious consideration.

But I will not be running in the 2026 election.

His extraordinary donation of the Aga Khan Prayer Centre and Museum in Toronto stands as a symbol of his friendship with our city and as a reminder of our responsibility to carry forward his commitment to our people living together in peace and prosperity.

I was profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of His Highness the Aga Khan. I extend my deepest sympathies to his followers in our wonderful Ismaili community. They are so rightly proud of his complete dedication to respect and understanding between the peoples of the world.

On his several visits to Toronto while I was Mayor, he repeatedly recognized our city’s unique responsibility to safeguard and build up mutual respect and understanding within our own diverse population.

As mayor I was happy to lead in encouraging community support for the @TOSantaParade. Like many I have attended the parade as a child, a father and a grandfather and this is a 120-year-old tradition that belongs to all of us.

He led the TTC in maintaining service during the crisis of the pandemic and can look back with pride at many transit accomplishments achieved on his watch for which he deserves more credit than he receives. I wish him every success in his next chapter. We were lucky to have him.

It was a privilege and a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to work with Rick Leary as TTC CEO for much of my time as Mayor. He is a person of great capability and integrity who was committed to improving Toronto's transit system throughout that time.

She has been taken from us way too soon. It is never too late to say thank you for a life well lived and great public service career. My condolences go to Jaye's family who were so incredibly important to her.

I have known Jaye Robinson for more than 20 years. She was a principled representative who fought for the things she believed in and more importantly fought hard for the people she represented at City Hall.

And in the past few years @JayeRobinson fought a determined fight against cancer, and did it with grace and determination. Including her years as a public servant, Jaye gave decades of service to make life better for Torontonians, including her period as TTC Chair.

Beyond all of that he was a wonderful caring husband, father and grandfather and my sincere condolences go to all of his family and friends. A life very well lived but he will be sorely missed. Truly a great Canadian.

The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney will prove to be one of the Prime Ministers of greatest consequence in the history of our country.

I worked very closely with him as a volunteer advisor and he became both a mentor and a friend.

Some of these items have been under discussion for years. Good on both governments for placing the broader public interest first. There will be lots of discussion and debate on various elements of this deal but simply put, overall, it is the right thing to do at the right time.

This deal represents an extremely important first step in recognizing Toronto's unique status among cities in Ontario and Canada and beginning to address some of the challenges that go with that. My congratulations to Premier @fordnation and Mayor @oliviachow.
